    Informatic applications to generate and fix navigation files and seismic records (SEGY)

    Se presentan cinco programas simples escritos en lenguaje JAVA con dos fines. El primer grupo de programas permite generar archivos de navegación de forma efectiva y rápida para utilizar en los casos en que los archivos Segy no tengan incorporados estos datos. Estos programas crean archivos de navegación, compatibles con el Kingdom Suite y el Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) a partir de los datos de localización de las líneas sísmicas y de los respectivos números de puntos de energización. También calculan datos estadísticos (longitud total de la línea, equidistancia entre puntos de explosión) a partir de los archivos de navegación generados. Esta información estadística permite determinar la calidad de las fuentes de datos de navegación consultadas (y compararlas si hay más de una). El segundo conjunto de programas permite arreglar dos tipos de errores identificados en los archivos Segy. El primero se caracteriza por un desfasaje en un sector del perfil sísmico que se atribuyó a la falta de datos en la traza ubicada justo antes del desfasaje. En el segundo tipo de error los archivos son totalmente ilegibles y se asumió que el inicio del perfil sísmico se localizaba en un posición intermedia del archivo.We present five programs written in the JAVA language with two purposes in mind. The first allows one to elaborate navigation files in an effective and rapid way to be used when the Segy files lack navigation data. These programs create navigation files compatible with the Kingdom Suite and the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) from a database of the seismic line locations and their respective shot point numbers. It also calculates statistical data (total length, shot point equidistance) for each file generated, which helps determine the quality of the navigation data sources and compare among them for multiple files. The second set of programs allows one to fix two types of errors identified in the Segy files. The first is characterized by an offset within the seismic section that was attributed to lack of data in the trace just previous the offset. For second error the files were totally illegible and it is assumed that the beginning of the seismic section was somewhere in the middle of the file.Fil: Esteban, Federico Damián.     A Spatial Microsimulation Model for the Estimation of Heat Demand in Hamburg

    Most spatial bottom up domestic heat models are based on an existing building stock data set, this can be the official digital cadastre (ALKIS in Germany), community based data sources (e.g: open-street) or collected data stored on a GIS system. On this paper we present an innovative method for the creation of spatial bottom up domestic heat models that do not need an existing building stock data-set as input. The advantage of this type of models are its transferability, speed and flexibility. The presented model uses national standardized statistical data, making it possible to apply it for any region in the country without having to modify the model. Because the input data for the model is more compact the speed of the model increases significantly, the type of analysis possible with a high speed model allow us to perform a microsimulation of the building stock for the entire country, see (Muñoz H., Seller, & Peters, 2015). The presented model structure allows us to quickly develop dynamic simulation scenarios. We present a spatial microsimulation model developed for the simulation of domestic heat demand. The presented model use the GREGWT R package to create a synthetic building stock benchmarked to aggregated small area statistics from the 2011 German census. We create this synthetic building stock from the 2010 microsensus. The heat estimation if performed on the microcensus with help of the heat R package. The simulation results present a monthly heat demand at a microlevel for the entire city of Hamburg. The generated data for the estimation of heat demand can be use as input data for other Agent Based Models. By enriching the microcensus with time use data, we are able to generate the basis data for the construction of activity based urban models. We see the development of this type of urban models as an essential development of urban planning, specially for a smart urban development.     Effects of date palm fruit extracts on skin mucosal immunity, immune related genes expression and growth performance of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fry

    The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of date palm fruit extracts (DPFE) on skin mucosal immunity, immune related genes expression and growth performance of fry common carp (Cyprinus carpio). One hundred and twenty specimens (4.06 ± 0.13 g) were supplied and allocated into six aquaria; specimens in three aquaria were fed non-supplemented diet (control) while the fish in the other 3 aquaria were fed with DPFE at 200 ml kg-1. At the end of feeding trial (8 weeks) skin mucus immune parameters (total immunoglobulins, lysozyme, protease and alkaline phosphatase activity) and immune related gene expression (tumor necrosis factor α [tnfa], lysozyme [ly] and interleukin-1-beta, [il1b]) in the head-kidney were studied. The results revealed that feeding carp fry with 200 ml kg-1 DPFE remarkably elevated the three skin mucus immune parameters tested (P 0.05) compared to control fish (fed control diet). Furthermore, growth performance parameters were significantly improved in fry fed DPFE (P < 0.05). More studies are needed to understand different aspects of DPFE administration in fry mucosal immunity. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd

    Harvesting Excitons Through Plasmonic Strong Coupling

    Exciton harvesting is demonstrated in an ensemble of quantum emitters coupled to localized surface plasmons. When the interaction between emitters and the dipole mode of a metallic nanosphere reaches the strong coupling regime, the exciton conductance is greatly increased. The spatial map of the conductance matches the plasmon field intensity profile, which indicates that transport properties can be tuned by adequately tailoring the field of the plasmonic resonance. Under strong coupling, we find that pure dephasing can have detrimental or beneficial effects on the conductance, depending on the effective number of participating emitters. Finally, we show that the exciton transport in the strong coupling regime occurs on an ultrafast timescale given by the inverse Rabi splitting (10 \sim10~fs), orders of magnitude faster than transport through direct hopping between the emitters.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    The Struggle for Palestinian Hearts and Minds: Violence and Public Opinion in the Second Intifada

    This paper examines how violence in the Second Intifada influences Palestinian public opinion. Using micro data from a series of opinion polls linked to data on fatalities, we find that Israeli violence against Palestinians leads them to support more radical factions and more radical attitudes towards the conflict. This effect is temporary, however, and vanishes completely within 90 days. We also find some evidence that Palestinian fatalities lead to the polarization of the population and to increased disaffection and a lack of support for any faction. Geographically proximate Palestinian fatalities have a larger effect than those that are distant, while Palestinian fatalities in targeted killings have a smaller effect relative to other fatalities. Although overall Israeli fatalities do not seem to affect Palestinian public opinion, when we divide those fatalities by the different factions claiming responsibility for them, we find some evidence that increased Israeli fatalities are effective in increasing support for the faction that claimed them.Israeli-Palestinian conflict, fatalities, public opinion

    Revision del género endémico cubano Trimytantron (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Trimytini) con la descripción de ocho nuevas especies

    A revision is provided for the Cuban endemic tenebrionid genus Trimytcmtron. Material of Ardoin's five previously described species (Trimytalltron decui, poeyi, cub anum, viiiai and negrai) is compared with the extensive series of the senior author's collection (O.H.G). Eight new species are herein described and illustrated. Also their genitalia are illustrated, as well as some of the previously described species not illustrated by Ardoin in his original descriptions. Material from several eastern localities assigned to T. decui are not exactly identical, showing some variations at subspecific level. Although these variations are mentioned, they are not described. The same situation applies to populations assigned to the new species described from the northern part of Santa Clara (the cave complex of Caguanes). Genitalia of six of the eight new species are herein illustrated as are those of T. decui and T. poeyi . Photographs of the eight new taxa are also provided; as well as a synoptic table of the principal diagnostic characters of all taxa of the genus

    Hybrid method for simulating front propagation in reaction-diffusion systems

    We study the propagation of pulled fronts in the AA+AA \leftrightarrow A+A microscopic reaction-diffusion process using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. In the mean field approximation the process is described by the deterministic Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piscounov (FKPP) equation. In particular we concentrate on the corrections to the deterministic behavior due to the number of particles per site Ω\Omega. By means of a new hybrid simulation scheme, we manage to reach large macroscopic values of Ω\Omega which allows us to show the importance in the dynamics of microscopic pulled fronts of the interplay of microscopic fluctuations and their macroscopic relaxation.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
